How Does FAM Work?

asically, FAM can accurately predict a woman's fertile period by relying on a few physical symptoms: Menstruation, Cervical Mucus (CM), Basal Body Temperature (BBT) and characteristics of the Cervix etc.

FAM may be used by women with both regular and irregular cycles because it relies on body symptoms and not day-counting. FAM works by analyzing just a few symptoms in the woman's body. In a nutshell, a woman's fertility cycle operates according to a predictable rhythm with specific signs that show where in the cycle she is. An obvious example is menstruation. Less obvious, but just as trustworthy, are changes in BBT and the quality of CM. The position and texture of the Cervix is also indicative of fertility but it is not as convenient to observe as well as. In fact, some of the most accurate symptoms take place only close or at he occurrence of ovulation, among the most sought after symptoms are Ovulatory Pain, also known as ‘Mittelschmerz’ and some woman may also experience a small amount of bleeding at this juncture. About a quarter of all woman are estimated to experience this convenient and accurate indicator of Ovulation, however, some may experience a much less precise nature with no sudden onset in the form of a ‘twinge’. While some may experience a dull ache, which may persist for a day or longer, this may or may not indicate an ovulation and as such, observation on other ovulatory symptoms are highly recommended.

A woman’s ovum (egg) usually lives for about 24 hours but because the life span of the man's sperm is longer, the conceivable 'window' is typically about 6 days.  Sperm may live in the uterus and fallopian tubes for a maximum of  5 days under the best conditions, although 2-3 days is the norm. The primary objective of FAM is to predict when will this "window" occur and fortunately, your body does gives a few clues to determine the start and end of this window. With sufficient experience after practicing for a few cycles, most women should be able to even pinpoint fairly accurate when ovulation takes place ... download GenderLabs™ for more information
